25 Years Ago (Week of Aug. 17-23, 1969):

* Residents of the Thunder Hill area of Columbia claimed that they has been victims of "gross misrepresentation" upon learning that their children would not be attending Columbia schools, as they had been led to believe. Under the districting plan, students from the Thunder Hill area would attend Waterloo Elementary School, Ellicott City Middle School and Howard High School.

50 Years Ago (Week of Aug. 20-26, 1944):

* A man was arrested and charged with breaking into the Mammy Lou Beer Tavern on Washington Boulevard. Police investigating the break-in noticed a bar of soap with teeth marks in it, and ordered that a plaster cast of the suspect's teeth be made. The man confessed when he was shown that the cast matched the teeth marks in the soap. (He said he had mistaken the soap for marshmallow candy.)

Information for this column was compiled by Diane Mullaly fro the Howard County Historical Society library.
