Yehoshofat Harkabi, 72, a former army intelligence chief and the first key figure to stress Israel's need to solve the Palestinian problem, died Friday of bone cancer in Jerusalem. A professor of international relations at Jerusalem's Hebrew University, he advised Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, the late Menachem Begin and other Israeli leaders. He was one of the first Israelis to urge negotiations with the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Edwin "Sonny" Chillingworth, 62, the slack-key guitarist who formerly performed with singer Don Ho, died of cancer Wednesday in Honolulu. His most recent album, titled "Sonny Solo," was released this year.

Nomi Mitty, 54, an actress who appeared on stage and in films and television, died of cancer on Wednesday at her home in Los Angeles. She began her career as a child, appearing on Broadway with Shirley Booth in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" in 1951. She toured with Mercedes McCambridge in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and with Edward Everett Horton in "Harvey." Her television credits included guest appearances on "Hill Street Blues," "Picket Fences," "Knots Landing" and "L.A. Law." Among her films were "Serpico" and "Melvyn and Howard."
