Officer gets suspension

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Baltimore police officer was suspended from duty yesterday after he was charged with pointing a handgun at his girlfriend, police said.

Officer Darrick L. Boyd, 22, a two-year veteran who had been assigned to the Central District, allegedly was involved in a dispute with his girlfriend over custody of their daughter Thursday around 11 p.m. at her home in the 4200 block of Duvall Ave., police spokesman Sam Ringgold said.

The girlfriend called 911 and said a gun had been pointed at her, Mr. Ringgold said. Officers responded, and Officer Boyd turned over his weapon to them, the spokesman said.

Officer Boyd was suspended with pay until an administrative hearing Monday, and he will face a court commissioner in about two weeks, Mr. Ringgold said.
