Cranberry Mall plans Back-to-School Fashion Show

Parents and students waiting until the last minute to do their back-to-school shopping can get help, at least in fashions, from Cranberry Mall's Back-to-School Fashion Show at 2 p.m. tomorrow in center court.

About 30 local young people from ages 4 to 21, assisted by professional models from the John Casablancas Modeling Agency in Towson, will show the latest fall fashions for kindergartners to college students.

"We'll have several categories of fashions -- classics, newest trends, Western clothes, what you'd wear to a football game, semi-formal, formal and sportswear," said Michele Grewe, marketing assistant for Cranberry Mall.

Most of the clothing stores in the mall, including the four anchors, are participating in the fashion show, which will include shoes and accessories.

Prices also will cover a wide range, Ms. Grewe said.

The mall had auditions at the beginning of August for models and selected 30 of the 60 prospects, she said. Those models will be mixed in with the Casablancas models.

Models' hair will be done by the Hair Cuttery, but will do their own make-up, Ms. Grewe said.

"What we looked for in the models was if they were enthusiastic, had a good personality, were outgoing and had a high energy level," she said. "We had them walk to some upbeat music and did a short interview with them."

Ivy Browning, 17, of Westminster will be modeling clothes for Casablancas, where she has worked for a year. The Carroll Community College freshman has modeled at malls throughout the Baltimore area.

She also models for Bella Model Management in Annapolis.

"I've been modeling since I was little," Miss Browning said. "I started out in 4-H here and I did local modeling before I started with an agency."

She and the other models will wear a minimum of two outfits each at tomorrow's show.

And afterward, the stores will be ready for the last-minute crush of back-to-school shoppers.
