A court commissioner ordered an Arnold man held on $5,000 bond yesterday after his arrest for fighting with police officers Sunday morning, authorities said.

The man also received traffic citations for driving without a license and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

The incident began about 6:30 a.m. Sunday when Cpl. Terry Wilson of the Eastern District, westbound on College Parkway near Ritchie Highway, noticed a Toyota pickup truck heading toward him on the wrong side of the road, police said.

Corporal Wilson pulled the truck over. The driver got out of his car and began pacing in the middle of the road. Corporal Wilson ordered the man to stay out of traffic.

The man took a pouch out of the truck and gave it to Corporal Wilson. He told the officer it contained weapons that he carried for protection, police said. Corporal Wilson found a dagger with a 4-inch blade, two pocket knives and two razor knives in the pouch.

The man was given the traffic citations and released. He walked east on College Parkway in the middle of the westbound lane, forcing traffic to stop or go around him, police said.

A few minutes later the man walked back to where Corporal Wilson and several other officers stood. He had a metal chain tied around his right hand and tried to punch Corporal Wilson, police said. He was subdued and arrested.

Michael Eugene Atkinson, 38, of the 400 block of Broadwater Road was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, assault, failure to obey a lawful order and possession of concealed weapons, police said.
