Slaying victim identified by police

THE BALTIMORE SUN

BALTIMORE -- Police have identified a man fatally shot Tuesday evening while he and a teen-ager stood in the 5200 block of Alhambra Ave. as a 22-year-old Govans resident.

Killed was Charles Taylor, 22, of the 700 block of McCabe Ave.

Police said Mr. Taylor and a friend, Kenneth Barfield, 16, of the 3700 block of Parkside Drive, were talking together around 5 p.m. when at least one gunman approached and reportedly began firing.

Each man was shot multiple times and fell to the pavement.

Police said Mr. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene and that young Barfield was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was admitted and listed in stable condition.

Police had not made any arrests and knew of no motive for the shootings.

Anyone having information about the incident or the identity of the gunman is urged to call the homicide squad at 396-2100.
