Quelland wins MAPGA title

THE BALTIMORE SUN

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- David Quelland, the head professional at Ocean City Yacht and Country Club, shot a 2-under-par 70 and won the $30,000 Middle Atlantic PGA/Ping Championship with a 54-hole total of 208 at Two Rivers Country Club yesterday.

The effort was good for a two-stroke margin on two-time $H champion Larry Ringer of the Country Club at Woodmore.

Quelland, 39, and in his ninth year at Ocean City, birdied the ninth hole to turn 1-under for the side, then rolled in an uphill putt from 15 feet at the 15th hole to get some breathing room on playing partner Ringer. "I had a good feeling. I was totally relaxed," Quelland said.

The winner, who collected exemptions to next year's Kemper Open and Anheuser-Busch Classic, along with a check for $6,450, finished 69-69-70 to 67-72-71 for Ringer.
