The Baltimore CFLs released three more players yesterday, including defensive tackle Tom Fuhler from the active roster.

Also cut were offensive guard O'Neill Glenn of Maryland from the practice roster and wide receiver Shannon Culver from the suspended list.

Fuhler, from Tennessee, played in all seven games for the CFLs as a reserve, but his bull-rush style was largely ineffective. He made just three tackles.

"We're trying to generate more pass rush," coach Don Matthews said. "Style is what we're replacing. His style will not improve. We weren't getting off the block."

Filling Fuhler's role as backup tackle will be either Scott Miller or Malcolm Showell, a product of Dunbar who was cut last week by the Green Bay Packers. Miller made the team as a backup offensive lineman and long snapper, although he was a defensive player at Rutgers. The arrival of long snapper/guard John Earle enables Miller to return to defense.

The CFLs also made a contract offer to Steve Brannon, a defensive end/tackle from Hampton University. Brannon was cut last week by the New York Giants, and has talked with the Los Angeles Rams.

Glenn started five games at right guard, but was cut from the active roster a week ago. "We kept waiting for him to be the guy," Matthews said. "His pass blocking was the problem."

Culver quit the team July 12, disgruntled about his status, and was suspended. He returned to practice last week. "There was a lack of confidence on my part that I wasn't able to overcome," Matthews said.
