Sylvan Learning Systems Inc. has received approval from school boards in Dorchester County and in Pasadena, Texas, to provide educational services to five schools, the Columbia-based company said.
The multi-year agreements are valued at about $1.8 million for the five schools, said Sylvan, a provider of individualized tutorial services.
Sylvan will provide math and reading services to 300 students in two Pasadena, Texas, schools and 180 students in three Dorchester County schools, beginning next month.
Chapter I is a federal program to provide funding for economically disadvantaged students in public schools.
Sylvan's stock closed at $18 yesterday, unchanged.
