Two forums planned for county candidates

The League of Women Voters of Carroll County will sponsor two candidate forums to allow the public to meet candidates and hear their views on issues.

Both forums will be in the Great Hall at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster. They are free.

On Tuesday candidates for county commissioner will speak from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Candidates for the District 5 Senate seat will speak from 8:30 p.m. to 9:40 p.m.

On Sept. 1 candidates for the Carroll Board of Education will speak from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Candidates for the District 5 House of Delegates seat will speak from 8:30 p.m. to 9:40 p.m.

Candidates for other offices may display literature at the events.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose candidates for public office.

Residents can participate in national health forum

The Carroll County Chapter of the League of Women Voters will present a nationally broadcast forum on health care reform from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16, at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.

Local residents may participate in the discussion with nationally known authorities through the college's satellite system. A local discussion will follow.

The event is free, but advanced registration is required because space is limited.

The league will show the video conference again from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 20. Another local discussion will follow.
