Group sought in Broadneck theft

THE BALTIMORE SUN

County police suspect a group of four to six people may be responsible for stealing $20,000 in jewelry from an elderly Broadneck woman June 24, officials said.

Detective Robert Aurand said the group may have committed other robberies, but he could only confirm the one case.

An elderly woman had gone to the victim's Broadneck home and said she was looking for someone. When the victim said the person did not live there, the woman asked her to check the phone book for the correct address.

While the victim checked the address, other people apparently slipped into the house and stole the jewelry, Detective Aurand said.

Police suspect a group that includes two men and four to six women is responsible. The women canvass a neighborhood while the men wait in cars, police said.

Anyone suspecting a similar crime should call Detective Aurand at 222-6145.
