An abandoned wooden structure in the 7600 block of Woodbine Road, filled with old automobile parts, burned to the ground after a fire was discovered in the building about 2 a.m. yesterday.

Engines from Winfield, Mount Airy and Lisbon of Howard County responded and fought the fire until about 5 a.m., according to a spokesman at the Winfield station.

One engine from Winfield remained at the site until 10:30 a.m. to deal with possible flare-ups, the spokesman said.

The cause is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

The walls of the building caved in during the fire, an official said. No one was injured.

About 40 firefighters put out the blaze using six engines and two tankers. A rescue squad and a medic unit were also dispatched to the fire.

The wooden structure was damaged about two years ago in a fire believed to have been started by electrical wires, fire officials said.

* Mount Airy: Units from Mount Airy responded to a residential fire alarm in the 6900 block of Runkles Road at 11:02 a.m. yesterday. They were back in service after 15 minutes.

Firefighters from Mount Airy went to a car fire on Route 75 at 11:25 a.m. Sunday. They were out for 10 minutes.

Engines from Mount Airy, Winfield and New Windsor were dispatched to a house fire in the 2400 block of Liberty Road at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 26 minutes.

Firefighters from Mount Airy assisted Frederick County at a house fire in the 12100 block of Graystone Drive at 4:14 p.m. Saturday. They were out for 18 minutes.
