All county students can get free shots
In a joint effort with the county public schools, the county Health Department has scheduled special back-to-school immunization clinics in August and September to get all children immunized.
Students entering kindergarten, first, second, sixth, seventh and eighth grades in September are required to have two doses of measles vaccine and one dose of mumps vaccine in addition to the immunizations required for all students.
No fee will be charged at these clinics:
* Aug. 24 and Sept. 14, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Annapolis Middle School, 1399 Forest Drive.
* Aug. 23 and Sept. 15, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Van Bokkelen Elementary School, 1140 Reece Road.
* Aug. 25 and Sept. 14, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Southern Middle School, 5235 Solomons Island Road.
* Aug. 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sept. 9, noon to 6 p.m., Chesapeake Bay Middle School, 4804 Mountain Road.
* Aug. 31 and Sept. 7, 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Magothy River Middle School, 214 Peninsula Farm Road.
* Sept. 9, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Marley Middle School, 7730 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd.
The Health Department encourages parents to consult their health care providers about having children immunized.
Immunization services are also available at the community health centers, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

Phone line gives water quality data
Throughout the summer until Labor Day, residents can call to get weekly water sample results as measured by fecal coliform. The number, 222-7999, may be called 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The information offered includes the emergency closing of creeks or portions of creeks; the average weekly results for 78 stations routinely sampled by the Health Department for fecal coliform; and a list of phone numbers that can assist residents in reporting water quality problems.
The phone system is an information-only system. Callers cannot be transferred to other phone numbers.
Phone-line information is available from sample stations on Rock Creek, Stoney Creek, Bodkin Creek, the Magothy River, Severn River, South River, Rhode River, West River and Herring Bay.
