A man with a gun, who also claimed to have a bomb, robbed an Annapolis bank yesterday afternoon, getting away with an undetermined amount of money.

Police said the man, who appeared to be 60 to 70 years old, entered the Chase Bank of Maryland, in the 100 block of Jennifer Road, about 1 p.m. and threatened a teller with a small handgun.

The man demanded to be admitted behind the counter, police reported, and a manager escorted him back and gave him money from a cash drawer. Police said the man tried unsuccessfully to get into the vault.

Before fleeing, police said, the man left a device resembling a bomb on the counter.

Officer Maxwell Frye, a county police spokesman, described the device as a small container with gunpowder inside. It was removed and dismantled by the Prince George's County bomb squad.

The man was described as a white male with gray hair, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt and dark pants and was last seen near Jennifer Plaza shopping center.
