Peterka wins women's title

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Cindy Peterka, the only player to turn in successive rounds in the 70s, easily won the annual Women's Golf Association championship at the Elkridge Club yesterday.

Peterka, from Sparrows Point Country Club, shot 77-79156, good for a six-stroke margin over runner-up Joan Winchester of Rolling Road GC. Winchester's 82-80162 earned her the Senior title.

"I was consistent, hit most of the greens, and putted well," Peterka said of her outgoing par-matching 37.

It was Peterka's first win of the season, marking a comeback from a broken ankle last January. She previously won the tournament in 1985 and 1989.
