3 bids received to build holding cells

Five companies submitted bids to build three additional holding cells for prisoners at the Courthouse Annex, 55 N. Court St.

A county engineer estimated that the job would cost $115,000; all five bids opened yesterday were higher.

The three low bids were from Lyons Construction Co. of Hampstead, $189,800; Lake Falls Construction Inc. of Baltimore, and Construction Management Services Inc. of Baltimore, $242,000.

The county Bureau of Purchasing will review the bids before awarding a contract.

The Courthouse Annex has two holding cells now.
