Police stop vehicle, confiscate cocaine and arrest couple on drug charges

Howard County police who searched a vehicle at a traffic stop in Laurel on Thursday night said they confiscated crack cocaine worth more than $2,000 and arrested its two occupants, both Laurel residents.

Police said they had obtained a warrant to search the 1986 Chevrolet El Camino after an undercover officer from the department's Street Drug Unit bought cocaine from someone in the vehicle.

Detectives served the warrant at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at All Saints Road and Scaggsville Road in Laurel.

Police seized 22.5 grams of crack and a small handmade smoking pipe, packaging materials and $294. The vehicle was confiscated, police said.

Arrested were Douglas Ellsworth Dorsey, 38, of the 8400 block of Leisure Road and Rita Sue Souder, 28, of the 9100 block of Old Scaggsville Road. Both were charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of cocaine, PCP and drug paraphernalia.

* North Laurel: 9900 block of Whiskey Bottom Road: Someone entered a pool house and stole pool equipment Wednesday. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
