50 Years Ago

* Preston G. Coffman, a veteran of World War No. 1 and active for a number of years in American Legion affairs, was elected commander of Carroll Post No. 31. Other officers elected were: Senior vice-commander, Paul F. Kuhns; junior vice-commander, Edward Chrest; adjutant, John Eckard; finance officer, J. Wesley Mathias; historian, John Case; chaplain, Charles Eyler, sergeant-at-arms, Edward Heagy; service officer, James E. Boylan, Jr.; color bearer, Walter Young, and executive committee members, Herman Green and Vern Jones. Herman Green is the retiring commander. Lawrence C. Fink, a past commander of the post and who served as Americanism chairman this year, is a candidate for commander of the Department of Maryland, and his name will be presented at the convention. -- Democratic Advocate, July 28, 1944.
