Broadcast TV offers little but sports today, and even the cable offerings, while much more interesting, are probably superfluous. other words, it's a fine summer Saturday to turn off the set and head outside.
* "Wide World of Sports" (4:30 p.m.-6 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- What a difference a few months make. The last time Olympics-level women figure skaters competed on national television, the showdown between Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan, drew phenomenally high ratings. Now, in the summer of '94, Harding is starring in some low-budget movie, Ms. Kerrigan's made-for-TV movie biography has been tabled by ABC, and today's ABC broadcast of the Goodwill Games, featuring female skaters in international competition, will be largely ignored. * "Moment of Truth: A Child Too Many" (8 p.m.-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- I mention this 1993 made-for-TV movie because Michele Greene, the former "L. A. Law" cast member who is its star, just surfaced in an atypically flashy and trashy role. Here, she plays a surrogate mother; on HBO's "Stranger By Night" movie acquisition, which the network premiered last Thursday, she plays a sexually ravenous neighbor with a slinky wardrobe and a few lines of dialogue that are laughably, unconvincingly lewd. * "The Man Without a Face" (8 p.m.-9:55 p.m., HBO) -- In this 1993 drama, Mel Gibson wears two hats (star and director) and gives a two-faced performance: half-handsome, half-disfigured. It's a fine family film. Young Nick Stahl co-stars.
* "Fatal Attraction" (8 p.m.-10:20 p.m., Showtime) -- The new, noteworthy part of this 1987 film comes
after the closing credits, when Showtime presents an appendix describing, and including, the film's original -- and very different -- ending.
* "The Goodwill Games" (8:05 p.m.-12:05 a.m., TBS) -- More Goodwill Games, including skating coverage.
* "The Making of the '94 Dallas Cheerleaders Calendar" (9 p.m.-10 p.m., ESPN) -- First you take some papyrus and ink, and add glue and staples, and . . . but somehow, I don't think this ESPN special will be going into that kind of detail.
* "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" (10 p.m.-midnight, Nickelodeon) -- Fans of this popular Snick show can wallow in a mini-marathon tonight, since four episodes are presented back-to-back.
