Number of jobless declines

The number of Americans seeking state unemployment benefits declined for the second consecutive week last week, dropping to the lowest level since February, the government said yesterday.

The Labor Department said initial jobless claims totaled a seasonally adjusted 319,000 in the week ended July 30. That was the lowest level since Feb. 26.
