What kind of weather did Crofton have last week?
Since I spent the week as a beachcomber, I can only venture a guess based on the look of my front and back lawn.
I'd say you must have had a lot of rain, as my lawn, which was was short and very brown when I left, is now green and too long.
At least someone else (son Kevin) has to cut it.
Al-Anon, a fellowship of people who know the devastation of alcoholism, holds meetings at 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Highway, or at 8:30 p.m. Fridays at Prince of Peace Church on Crofton Parkway.
The Bowie/Crofton Garden Club will meet at 7:30 tonight at Bowie City Hall.
Bill Strickland will be discussing "Lighting in the Landscape." Visitors are welcome. Door prizes and a plant exchange are held at each meeting.
The Crofton Convalescent Center will be offering a family seminar, "Change, Loss and Grief," from 11 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
The Convalescent Center is at 2131 Davidsonville Road, Crofton.
The Bowie/Crofton Multiple Sclerosis Support Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the Adult Day Care Center of Bowie, 3112 Belair Drive.

The Crofton Civic Association is looking for its Citizen of the Year.
The award is given annually to the person who has made a significant contribution to the betterment of our community.
The nominee must be a resident of the Special Community Benefit District and cannot be a member of the CCA's board of directors.
Deadline for nominations is Aug. 31. Forms are available at Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The Greater Crofton Chamber of Commerce is having several events in the coming weeks.
* The Commerce Education Committee meeting will be held on Thursday 4-5 p.m. at the Signet Bank in Crofton Center. New members are welcome.

* The chamber also is playing host to two candidates' forums. The pre-primary forum will be held on Sept. 7 and the pre-general election forum will be held Nov. 2. Both events will be at the Crofton Country Club from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Members of the Chamber and local residents are invited to work on the organizing committee.
It's not too late to play football on the Crofton Athletic Council team this fall.

Slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Equipment distribution is set for Aug. 13 at Crofton Park and practices start Aug. 15.
