The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a 4th District County Council candidates forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 10, at the Piney Orchard Visitor's Center, 2400 Stream Valley Drive in Odenton.
All five candidates will be there and will submit written responses to questions prepared by the chamber. Topics for discussion will include fiscal management, economic development, the environment, crime, education and how and where to dispose of refuse.

Members of the "Save The Dairy Farm" movement have vowed to expand their efforts to get citizens involved in preserving the Naval Academy dairy farm in Gambrills. Hal Counihan, one of the movement's leaders, said petitions can be signed at Jerman's IGA grocery store next to the dairy farm; Papa John's Produce in Severn; Tobin Feed and Pet Supply, Gambrills Garden Center, and Shoreline Seafood in Gambrills; and Odenton Liquors in Odenton.
"This is the 'grassiest' of grass-roots movements," said Mr. Counihan, "but we are beginning to get the attention of our elected officials."
At a recent town meeting in Millersville, Rep. Wayne T.Gilchrest expressed his support for keeping the dairy farm intact.
A reminder to senior citizens: The O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton, is featuring many activities to keep you occupied next month. A hearing screening will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 4. Sherri DiBattista, an audiologist, will be available to conduct hearing tests and adjust hearing aids. Appointment is required.
From 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 5, Mary Ann Love, a representative with the Information and Assistance Department of Anne Arundel County's Department of Aging, will be on hand to provide information on the many services the department offers.

The Greater Odenton Improvement Association will hold a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Odenton Volunteer Fire Hall, Route 175 in Odenton. All Democratic and Republican candidates for county executive, District 4 of the County Council and District 33 of the House of Delegates and Senate have been invited. Faith Community Church, 1306 Waugh Chapel Road, Gambrills has two more fantastic Fridays. The junior and senior high school groups already have had two "Fantastic Friday" youth nights. These evenings give teens a chance to perform skits, play music and games, lead in worship, and give hobby demonstrations. There also is a fast-paced gospel presentation.
The August meetings are scheduled from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. Aug. 5 and Aug. 19. A special "Fantastic Friday" will be held Sept. 2, when the Base 6 musical drama will end the summer activities.
Professional magician Michael Chamberlin is bringing his bag of comedy magic to area libraries next month. His magic show, one of the events of the library's summer reading program, is free and geared toward children entering grades one through six in the fall. Registration is not required, but seating is limited.
Michael the Magician will be at the Province Branch Library, Route 175 in the Severn Square Shopping Center at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 2; at the Odenton Branch Library, 1270 Odenton Road at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 9; at the Crofton Branch Library, 1657 Crofton Centre, at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11.
