Woman, 71, is robbed outside Harundale Mall


A 71-year-old Garland woman was robbed Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of Harundale Mall, county police said.

Laura Webster told police she had just taken money from an automated teller machine inside the mall about 2 p.m. when two women approached her while she was in the parking lot. One of the women told Ms. Webster to hand over her money. Ms. Webster complied, police said.

The women drove off in a gray Chevy Cavalier. Ms. Webster gave a partial license plate number to police.

Theft of deliveryman thwarted by resident

A man delivering pizza to a home in the 6400 block of Harrison Square Friday morning escaped a robbery attempt when someone at the house answered the door and scared off the would-be thief, county police said.

Rene Manzoor Ahmed, 32, of Timonium, told police he had rung the house's doorbell about 1 a.m. when a man approached him. The man pulled out a small handgun and demanded money. As he started to search Mr. Ahmed, a resident of the house opened the door, which frightened the suspect and caused him to run before the victim had handed over any money, police said.

Man robs store with an ice pick

A man armed with an ice pick robbed the Southgate Shell Food Mart Thursday night and took an undisclosed amount of cash, county police said.

The man came into the store, in the 300 block of Hospital Drive, about 10 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk, police said. He ran away and was last seen near the Mountain Ridge Apartments. A K-9 unit tracked him from there but lost his trail, police said.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall. He had a thin build, brown hair and was about 45 years old. He was wearing a blue bandanna and a blue or green uniform with a company or name patch above the pocket, police said.
