Tabrizi's, an oasis of Mediterranean cuisine in South Baltimore for the past four years, has new ownership, a new chef and a new menu -- sort of. Owner Susan Daniel is sole proprietor now, having bought out partner Michael Tabrizi in January. Ms. Daniel has worked with chef Chris Cherry (who was at Tabrizi's in 1991 and 1992, then went to the Museum Cafe) to create a "Mediterranean fusion" menu, a blend of Mediterranean techniques with fresh American ingredients. She reports diners' favorites so far are the Vidalia onion tart, Mediterranean crab cakes (with seafood mousse as a binder instead of mayo) and soft crab spanakopita.
The popular backyard garden has been enclosed and filled with plants, for ideal summer dining. Tabrizi's is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday. For reservations and information, call (410) 752-3810.

Ever notice the concentration of a small child making mud pies, sand soup or air tea? Noted chef and cookbook author Mollie Katzen did and realized that even for young children, cooking could be an engaging activity. So, along with preschool teacher Ann Henderson, she created "Pretend Soup," a cookbook for kids. Recipes, which include quesadillas, pizza and muffins, are given in picture form for the kids and in standard recipe form for adults. The pretend soup of the title is an orange juice, yogurt and fruit concoction. Here's a sample recipe:
1 cup milk
1/2 ripe banana
2 tablespoons sweetened cocoa
3 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients in blender. Cover tightly and blend until smooth ("until the very loud crunching noise stops"). Pour into a tall glass and drink.
