Turf race at Laurel canceled by rainstorm

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A rainstorm prompted a one-race cancellation yesterday at Laurel Race Course.

About five minutes before post time for the seventh race, on the turf, the track was hit by a downpour.

The horses were held in the paddock until about one minute before post time when the jockeys notified management that the drenched grass course was too dangerous for racing.

The track is refunding the $133,587 that was bet on the race. The last two races on the card were run as scheduled on the main track.
