MANCHESTER, England -- The United States routed Japan, 33-2, in its opening game of the World Lacrosse Championships yesterday.

Attackman Mark Millon led the Americans with five goals and nine assists, Mike Morrill (St. Paul's) had five goals and two assists, and Gilman coach John Tucker contributed three goals and one assist.

The U.S. team rolled to a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter, and coach Tony Seaman (Johns Hopkins) said that he throttled down the offense for the rest of the half. Still, the Americans added six goals for a 20-0 halftime lead.

The U.S. team should face a stiffer test tonight when it faces Canada, a 19-13 winner over England.
