Slaying suspect arrested

BALTIMORE -- A man sought in the death of his 20-year-old girlfriend, whose burned body was found next to an apartment complex in the 5600 block of Sinclair Lane last month, was arrested yesterday afternoon, police said.

The suspect, Antoine Mike Chase, 19, whose last known address was the 4900 block of Malboro Hall Road, surrendered himself at the Central police district shortly after 2 p.m. yesterday after he learned that members of the U.S. Marshal's fugitive squad were seeking him.

On June 24, firefighters were extinguishing a small brush fire near the apartment complex when they discovered the body of a woman, later identified as Michelle Renee Lowery, of the 5400 block of Morello Road.

The woman's badly burned body was unidentified until her mother, Germaine Reese Lowery, called police after learning the victim was wearing a ring with the initial "G" on it. The mother told police the ring was hers, but that her daughter often wore it.

After the victim's identification and after police received information about a suspect in the woman's death, a warrant charging Mr. Chase with first-degree murder was issued.
