A Zoning Board hearing that had been scheduled for 8 p.m. today on a proposed rezoning to let Laurel Race Course move its 1,000-horse stables from Anne Arundel County to Howard County has been canceled.
The earliest the case could be heard is December, when the new County Council members, who also make up the Zoning Board, take office after the Nov. 8 elections.
The creation of a new zoning category for a 70-acre tract would allow parking adjacent to the site of a proposed $160 million football stadium in Anne Arundel County.
Zoning Board chairman Paul Farragut, a west Columbia Democrat, had said earlier that the case might be postponed because Council Chairman C. Vernon Gray had said he would not vote on the case, and because another of the five members did not wish to hear the case.
Mr. Gray said he would not participate because of questions raised by a political rival about a campaign debt for a fund-raiser at the race track in 1989.
