Manchester student 3rd in Md. piano competition

Nicole E. Schott, daughter of Donna and David Schott of Manchester, recently placed third in the Maryland State Music Teachers Association piano competition at Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore.

She performed Novelette by Kabalevsky and Sonatina Opus 55 No. 3 by Kuhlau.

Early last month, she auditioned successfully for the National Federation of Student Musicians, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, at Towson State University.

To win this national honor, students had to perform 10 pieces from memory from various musical periods.

Nicole, 12, is a member of the Gunpowder 4-H Club.

She also works with the Carroll County Literacy Program as a puppeteer, promoting literacy throughout the county.
