* The concept of a parent-child center for poverty-level families in Ellicott City was being studied. The center would be part of an outreach program which would provide day care for pre-schoolers, as well as advice and assistance for entire families.
50 Years Ago (Week of July 2-8, 1944):
* Area residents eager to hear Roy Acuff and his Smokey Mountain Boys caused a major traffic jam on Frederick Road east and west of Brendel's Manor Park, where the group was performing.
* The Howard County Animal Welfare Society conducted a county-wide membership drive. A supporting membership with voting privileges costs $5 per year. An active membership was $2 and an associate membership $1.
