Man injured after his car runs off road

A Mount Airy man was seriously injured after the car he was driving ran off Woodbine Road and struck a utility pole about 10 p.m. Tuesday, state police said.

Kurt R. Bechtel, 35, of the 2500 block of Penn Hill Road was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where a spokeswoman yesterday said his condition was listed as serious but stable.

Mr. Bechtel's 1993 Ford Escort ran off the right side of Woodbine Road before returning to the road, crossing the double center line and striking the pole off the left side of the road.

Police gave no information on possible charges in the accident.
