Police charge man with harboring fugitive son

A 44-year-old Glen Burnie man was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with harboring a fugitive after police learned that his son, who had escaped from jail, had been staying with him, police said.

Police first went to the father's home in the 700 block of Pamela Road on July 2, after the fugitive's former girlfriend, Terry Marie Shackelford, 19, said he was staying there.

Police did not find the fugitive, John Haslup Jr., 19, when they arrived. They told his father, John Haslup Sr., that they would arrest him if they learned that his son was staying with him, police said.

Ms. Shackelford called police again Wednesday when she went to the Haslup home to pick up her children. Ms. Shackelford told police that she and the younger Mr. Haslup argued and that he fought with her current boyfriend, police said.

The younger Haslup had left by the time police arrived, but the officers arrested the elder Mr. Haslup.

John Haslup Jr. escaped from the Anne Arundel County Jail June 21, said Officer Randy Bell, a county police spokesman.

Richard Baker, jail superintend ent, said Haslup had been serving time for two felony theft convictions.

D. C. man is charged with indecent exposure

County police arrested a man Sunday afternoon who told them he had stripped naked in the 7400 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. because he was hot, officials said yesterday.

Willie Larry Cole, 44, of the 4600 block of B Street in the District of Columbia, was charged with indecent exposure.

Police said a witness pointed out the man, standing on the sidewalk on the north side of the Glen Burnie Ice House, to a Northern District officer patrolling the area about 1 p.m. The man's clothes were on the ground beside him, police said. They said that when the officer asked the man why he was standing naked in the middle of the sidewalk, he replied that he was hot.

When the officer told the man he could not stand around naked just because he was hot, the man replied that his ancestors wore no clothes, police said. The officer ordered the man to get dressed and arrested him.
