Man shot resisting robbery attempt


A 20-year-old Laurel man was shot during an apparent robbery attempt yesterday just after midnight while he sat in his car a few blocks from his home, Howard County police said.

Kurt Randolph Gray Jr. of the 9400 block of Fifth St. was parked in the 9200 block of N. Laurel Road about 12:05 a.m. when two men approached. The men demanded money, and Mr. Gray was shot once during the brief confrontation, police said.

The two men fled after the shooting, police said.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and took Mr. Gray to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center where surgeons removed the bullet, which was lodged in his back, police said.


* North Laurel: 9100 block of Whiskey Bottom Road: Someone smashed the front glass door at the Southland Corp. with a concrete block and took computer equipment Saturday, police said.

9300 block of Washington Blvd.: A 1990 Chevrolet pickup with Delaware tags was stolen Saturday, police said.

9900 block of Washington Blvd.: A white 1993 Chevrolet S-10 truck with Georgia tags QE10349 was stolen Saturday morning, police said.

* Savage: 8800 block of Baltimore St.: Glenn Meredith Bunn, 43, of the 9100 block of Bryant Ave., Laurel, was being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center last night on charges of breaking and entering, assault and violating an ex-parte order. He is accused of forcing open a window to enter his ex-wife's home on Monday.

9100 block of Stebbing Way: A 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck with Maryland tags 30A 778 was stolen Tuesday, police said.
