A fireworks display over the Severn River near Annapolis was interrupted last night after the chief fireworks technician was injured on the launching barge.
TC hospital spokesman said.
Annapolis spokesman Tom Roskelly said Mr. Silverman was burned around the face and broke an arm and several ribs after a rocket exploded out of the bottom of a launching tube instead of coming out the top.
A second technician, Scott Martin, was also injured when the fireworks backfired. But he resumed the display about 10:25 p.m., Mr. Roskelly said. Mr. Martin, 38, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with a dislocated shoulder after the show, he said.
Most of the 20,000 spectators who had gathered at the U.S. Naval Academy grounds and in downtown Annapolis left during the hour-long delay, police said.
