Buddy Peoples of the Crofton Country Club shot 69 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the 27th annual Maryland Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Mount Pleasant Golf Club yesterday.

Peoples was followed by Larry Storck (CC of Maryland), Phil Fairbanks (Hobbit's Glenn), Nicu Nastase (Chantilly National) and Britt Sloan (CC of Woodmore) at 70.
