Jeffrey Hammonds hit two of Baltimore's six home runs to lead the Orioles to a 14-7 win over the California Angels in a game that featured a major-league record-tying 11 home runs.

It marked the eighth time in baseball history and the fourth time in the American League that teams combined for 11 homers.

The last time -- also in a game involving the Orioles -- was Sept. 14, 1987, when the Toronto Blue Jays hit 10 homers and Baltimore had one in an 18-3 rout by the Blue Jays.

Last night's Orioles' starter, Mike Mussina, (12-4) won his third straight start and improved to 5-1 since June 1, despite allowing the Angels five homers in five innings.

"It was an unbelievable game," Mussina said.

"I'm glad I got out of there without getting hurt physically, the way the ball was flying. I made bad pitches that they hit and I made good pitches and they hit them."
