Dixon scheduled to announce candidacy

Carroll Del. Richard N. Dixon was scheduled to announce last night that he would seek re-election to the District 5 seat he has held since 1983.

Mr. Dixon, 56, a Westminster Democrat, is on the House Appropriations Committee. He is an assistant vice president at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith in Towson. He planned to talk about his election at a Westminster Kiwanis Club dinner meeting last night at Wakefield Valley Golf Club, his campaign manager Paul Welliver said.

As of yesterday, Mr. Dixon had three Democratic and seven Republican opponents. Three District 5 delegate seats are up for election this year. The primary is Sept. 13.

Three Democrats file for Central Committee

Three more county residents filed at the Board of Elections yesterday to run for the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee. Eight seats are open; five residents filed previously.

Two of those who filed yesterday already are on the committee -- Cynthia Cummings and Damian L. Halstad, both of Westminster. Scott Markle of Westminster also is running.
