Kerri Beisser of Finksburg has won the Mr. and Mrs. Lanious B. Keiper Prize for outstanding academic achievement at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.
Ms. Beisser, a government major, won the award for making the greatest academic advancement in the sophomore class during the first semester of the 1993-1994 college year. She is a 1992 graduate of Garrison Forest School and daughter of Jean and George Beisser of Finksburg.
POLICE
* Westminster: A Baltimore woman reported to Westminster city police Friday that her tan 1986 Chevrolet Chevette was stolen from the Weis Market parking lot. The car's value was estimated at $1,000.
A West Main Street resident told city police Thursday that his lawn mower had been taken from a shed in the rear of his residence. The lawn mower was valued at $400.
A Backwoods Road resident told city police Friday that his vehicle had been robbed. Damage and loss to the vehicle was estimated at nearly $800.
A Raintree Avenue resident reported to city police Thursday that her car was scratched while it was parked at Cranberry Mall. The damage was estimated at $400.
A Carroll View Avenue resident reported to city police Saturday that property was removed from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked at Cranberry Mall. The loss was estimated at $90.
An official of the Superfresh Store on Englar Road reported a theft of items valued at $90.32 to city police.
FIRE
* Westminster: Companies from Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester responded to a building fire in the 400 block of Baltimore Blvd. at 7:34 a.m. Saturday. Units were out for 35 minutes.
Westminster equipment responded to a report of uncontrolled burning near Routes 31 and 140 at 7:10 a.m. Sunday. Units were out for 20 minutes.
Westminster firefighters responded to a brush fire in the 1000 block of Brehm Road at 2:57 p.m. Sunday. They were out 22 minutes.
At 4:10 p.m. yesterday, firefighters responded to a brush fire near Leisters Church on Route 482. They were out for 20 minutes.
* Reese: Firefighters from Reese responded to a report of an open 911 emergency line in the 2400 block of Clydesdale Road at 7:49 p.m. Sunday. They were out for 11 minutes.
