Uniontown Road closed by accident blamed on a bee

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Uniontown Road between Westminster and Uniontown was closed for two hours Thursday night as county workers cleared debris from an accident in which a car ran off the road and severed a telephone pole.

The driver, Stephen E. Haines of Taneytown, lost control of his 1984 Ford after a bee "struck him in the face," a state police report said.

BAfter hitting the telephone pole, Mr. Haines' vehicle came to rest against a tree.

Donora L. Dingman, Bell Atlantic's manager of external affairs for Carroll County, said no customers lost phone service as a result of the accident.

Mr. Haines was treated at the Carroll County General Hospital emergency room and released.
