* Members of the Carroll County Sanitary Commission received a financial jolt last week when bids for the Route 27 sewer lines and Cranberry Station Pumping Station were opened. The lowest bid was more than $86,000 over the estimate of $250,000. -- Democratic Advocate, June 23, 1969.

100 Years Ago

* The levy for state and county taxes was made, as follows: For state purposes, 17 1/2 cents on the $100; for county purposes, 42 cents on the $100. The county levy was divided as follows: For school purposes, 15 cents; for court expenses and magistrates and for officers' salaries, 12 cents; for jail almshouse, outdoor pensions and for the support of insane paupers, 10 cents; miscellaneous, 5 cents. The levy for road purposes was made at the rate named by the road commissioners. -- American Sentinel, June 23, 1894.
