A Carroll County Board of Zoning Appeals hearing to determine whether a Finksburg man may open an indoor shooting range in Westminster will continue next week after a daylong hearing yesterday.

Testimony began in the case at a hearing May 25 and continued yesterday. More evidence will be presented at 9:30 a.m. July 1 in Room 309 of the County Office Building.

Herbert Starlings wants to open the range in part of a former knitting factory at 535 Old Westminster Pike. Some neighbors opposed the project; they said they worried about noise and safety.

POLICE

* Westminster: A resident of Mount Pleasant, Pa., told city police Tuesday that a rear tire was removed from her car while it was parked in the 200 block of E. Main St. The tire is valued at

$150.

A Windsor Drive resident reported to city police Wednesday that a poplar tree in his back yard had been uprooted. The damage is estimated at $200.

* Silver Run: A resident of the 2300 block of E. Mayberry Road told state police Wednesday that his mailbox, valued at $20, had been destroyedwith a baseball bat.

FIRE

* Westminster: Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley, New Windsor and Gamber responded for a house fire in the 100 block of East Main Street at 4:32 p.m. yesterday. Crews were out for 29 minutes.

Westminster responded for a small gasoline spill at a filling station on Englar Road at Baltimore Boulevard at 2:15 p.m. yesterday. Crews were out for 30 minutes. The spill was cleaned up by the station's employees.
