A 33-year-old Guilford man was arrested yesterday on charges of raping a Guilford convenience store worker Wednesday night, Howard County police said.

Police said the man and an 18-year-old woman were alone in the store at 11 p.m. Wednesday when the man displayed a knife and raped the woman.

The woman went to a friend's house after the attack and called police. Police arrested the man at his home at 6:50 a.m. yesterday.

Riaz Ahmed Alvi, of the 9700 block of Guilford Road, was charged with rape and assault and battery. He was being held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup last night, police said.
