Fuhler intensifies camp
In the biography on Tom Fuhler distributed by the CFL Colts is a sentence that sums up the impression he has made in training camp.
It reads: "Considered the most intense player on the CFL Colts."
Most discussions about Fuhler begin with his intensity. But they don't always end there. There's more to the 6-4, 290-pound defensive tackle than attitude.
"He works hard every play," said Jim Popp, the director of player personnel. "He's limited in some areas compared to guys he's competing with, but his extra effort and strength and size keep him competitive."
Fuhler spent last year on the Washington Redskins' injured reserve. In 1992, he was on their practice roster. This is his first CFL camp.
"When you get down to it, it's just football," said Fuhler, a two-year starter at Tennessee. "It's a bunch of quality athletes out here and everybody's fighting for a job."
Culver slowed by injury
Receiver Shannon Culver is slowed by a sprained left ankle he suffered Monday morning.
Culver, the Colts' best deep threat and a standout in camp, tried to field punts yesterday morning, but was limping noticeably and went to the sideline. He is questionable for Friday's exhibition opener in Shreveport.
;/ "It's day-to-day," said coach Don Matthews.
Ham has ups and downs
Tracy Ham completed his first three passes of the afternoon's no-huddle drill, then misfired on his next five attempts. He finished 4-for-10, the last completion to Marcus Grant for a touchdown. He later went 6-for-6 in the team drill.
Smith intercepts two
Cornerback Kwame Smith made two interceptions against different quarterbacks during the morning drill.
