The Women's Forum at Essex Community College has given Peggy Hayeslip of Eldersburg the "Unsung Hero Award" for service to the college and the community.

Ms. Hayeslip is an educational specialist at the college working with students who have learning disabilities. She recently has been acting director of the Office of Special Services at Essex.

She has worked at the college for 12 years. She has a bachelor's degree from Marquette University and a master's degree from Duquesne University. She will leave Essex in September to establish and coordinate services for learning-disabled students at the University of Maryland College Park.

"Unsung Heroes" are nominated by their colleagues and chosen by a committee of previous winners.
