Jamie Moyer and Jim Abbott both have had one-sided success rates against their opponents tonight. But Abbott is the one who could boast about his record.

Moyer and Abbott are the starters tonight as the Orioles and Yankees play the third game of their four-game series at Camden Yards.

Abbott has owned the Orioles during his six-year career. He has won seven of eight decisions, including a 5-1 victory over the Orioles on May 20 in New York.

His record vs. the Orioles is his best against any team. The Orioles, however, bat over .300 as a team against Abbott and had at least one runner on base in every inning against him this year, but have yet to discover the knockout punch.

In that game, Moyer delivered his usual performance against New York. He gave up nine hits in just over three innings, including a three-run homer to Randy Velarde.

Abbott (6-5, 3.43 ERA) has one win in his past four decisions. On Friday, Abbott took the loss as the Toronto Blue Jays battered him for nine hits and six runs in six innings.

He also is experiencing the same control problems he endured last season. After four seasons of maintaining a 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, Abbott is just above a 1-to-1 ratio for the second straight year.

Moyer, who is winless in five career starts against the Yankees, is trying to reverse the predictable outcome on paper. His 0-4 record against New York is his worst vs. American League teams.

Moyer is averaging seven hits in less than five innings per start vs. the Yankees. He also has at least one victory and no more than two losses against every American League team that he has faced more than once except New York.

The timing is right for Moyer to end that streak. Before his loss to the Chicago White Sox on June 4, he had won his past three decisions in this month dating back to last year. Moyer has had more success in June (9-5 record) than any other month in his career.

But Moyer has struggled lately and hasn't recorded a win since May 25, a span of three starts.
