A warrant was issued yesterday for a 26-year-old man who escaped Monday night from the medium-security prison in Sykesville.

Mack Anthony Young Jr. was serving an 18-year sentence for second-degree murder in the 1985 shotgun slaying of Shawn Antonio Jenkins, 17, who lived in the 2300 block of W. Fayette St., Baltimore.

Authorities said the inmate was accounted for at 9:45 p.m. but at 10:22 p.m., he could not be found during a routine head count.

A glove, believed to be his, was discovered inside a double enclosure, one barbed wire and one razor wire, that surrounds the building where Young was housed.

A K-9 dog was able to follow Young's scent about 300 yards but no further.

Young had recently been transferred to the Central Laundry Facility at Springfield Hospital from the Brockbridge Correctional Facility at Jessup, said Maxine Eldridge, a Division of Correction spokeswoman.

The last known home address for Young was the 3000 block of W. North Ave., Baltimore. Young is black with a medium complexion. He has brown eyes and black hair and is 5 feet 10 inches tall. He weighs 151 pounds and has a tattoo on his chest, but authorities were not able to describe the tattoo.
