An 11-year-old Wheaton girl was struck by a car after her younger brother changed gears in the parked vehicle while their mother ran an errand in Oakland Mills Saturday, Howard fire and rescue officials said.

Iesha Lacour was driven by ambulance to the pediatrics center at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was treated for leg injuries, said Battalion Chief Donald Howell of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

About 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Iesha's mother left the children in her vehicle while she made a quick stop at the Oakland Mills Village Center.

In her absence, the girl's 9-year-old brother shifted the car to neutral, causing the vehicle to roll backward.

Iesha apparently hopped from the moving car and was struck and trapped at the front of the vehicle. Passers-by pushed the vehicle and freed the girl.

Emergency medical technicians arrived shortly thereafter, Chief Howell said.
