Red Sox update

Boston is in second place in the American League East, one game ahead of the Orioles, but signs of a collapse are not difficult to find. The pitching staff has hit hard times of late. The Red Sox have given up at least 10 runs in five of their past six games. The rotation behind ace Roger Clemens has been unreliable of late. In the last two turns around the rotation, Aaron Sele, Danny Darwin, Joe Hesketh and Gar Finnvold have combined to pitch 38 innings and allow 62 hits and 42 earned runs for an ERA of 9.95. The middle relief has not been any better. Todd Frohwirth, released by the Orioles during spring training, has posted an 11.81 ERA in his past 16 innings, allowing 22 hits and 10 walks. In his past 13 innings, Greg Harris has allowed 31 hits, nine walks and 24 earned runs.
