Freedom Optimist softball

* 12-and-under girls -- The Slammers dealt the Wild Thangs their first loss of the season, 13-11.

Cara McConville went 5-for-5 for the winners, with a triple and double; Bethany Hall was also 5-for-5. Candice Reagan added four hits, including a double and triple; Elizabeth Horrell had three hits, including a double, and added a sacrifice fly.

The Slammers' Jennifer Brophy reached base four times, with two hits and two walks. Hall and Brophy also turned in excellent defensive plays.

The Sylvan Learning Center Sour Apples and Grave Diggers played to a 10-10 tie.

The Diggers' Tracie Faith tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jennifer Reahl and Kate Hartman were 3-for-4 for the Diggers. Outfielders Rebecca Armstrong and Amanda Bange made excellent catches, squelching Sour Apples rallies.

Faith and Armstrong were 4-for-4, pacing the Grave Diggers to an 18-13 win over the Marlins.

Kate Hartman, Jennifer Reahl and Kristen Petrucelli were 3-for-4 for the winners.

The Wild Thangs prevailed over the Sylvan Learning Center Sour Apples, 13-12.

Lacy Ashly, Theresea Jason and Bethany Modracek each collected two hits for the Apples, and Christina Warholic led the team with four runs scored.

Michelle Cavanaugh paced the winners' attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run, scoring three times. Rebecca Podobnik provided the key defensive play with a great catch of a line drive off the bat of Lynn Sonnenleiter that could have tied or won the game for the Sour Apples.

The Terrors got past the Sour Apples, 13-11. Stephanie Wilder was 4-for-4, scoring three runs for the Terrors, and Karen Thompson supported with a 3-for-4 game and scored four runs. Lynn Sonnenleiter paced the Sour Apples' attack, going 3-for-4 with a long home run.

Bethany Modracek was 4-for-4 with a triple and scored three runs for the Apples. The Apples' Nicky Boehme and Jocelyn Petit de Mange were 2-for-3.

Freedom Optimist lacrosse

* 12-14 boys -- White pushed its record to 9-0 with a 15-3 victory over Maroon.

Kevin Roy and Tim Chairs each scored three goals for White, and Roy dished off five assists. Mike Rabinovitz had five assists to go with two goals. Chad Rabinovitz, Adam White, Doug Richmond, Adam Richmond, Micah Reese, Chris Heck and Scott Sanders each added a goal for White, which has clinched the regular-season title.

Chris Sraver scored twice, and Bryan Dods, once, for Maroon. Evan Cunningham and Dustin Heneman each added an assist.

Lee Windsor paved the way with five goals and two assists, as Gold topped Black, 9-7.

Jason Veneziani added two goals and two assists for Gold, Chris Norris had a goal and assist, and Eric Schottler, a goal. Pete Schaffer added two assists.

Mike Pearsall had three goals and an assist for Black, Tom Freedman added two goals and two assists, and Tim Hymiller, a goal and two assists. Greg Hymiller also scored for Black.

Rob Onda had nine goals and an assist, to lead Orange to a 13-11 win over Grey. He leads the division with 88 points (63 goals and 25 assists). Drew Gibson added three goals for Orange; Dave Martin and Travis Spampinato each scored once. Tres Johnson tossed in four goals and had one assist for Grey, and Will Gunther had three goals. Andrew Bettis added two goals and an assist, and Mark Dykes, a goal for Grey.

Mike Rabinovitz scored five goals, as his White team upended Grey, 12-8.

Tim Chairs supported with three goals; Mike Heck, Chad Rabinovitz, Kevin Roy and Ryan Wynn each added one. Pat Wynn had an assist.

Will Gunther had three goals for Grey, and Tres Johnson and Justin Felmey each tacked on two. Travis Beccelo added one goal for Grey.

Onda scored 10 goals and added four assists to lead Orange to a 15-12 win over Black.

Spampinato added five scores. While overshadowed by Onda's performance, Black's Mike Pearsall also had a good game, with six goals and two assists.

Black's Tim Hymiller chipped in with three goals, Tom Freedman scored twice and had two assists, and Erik Fischer added a goal.

Gold downed Maroon, 8-1. Josh Phelps and Lee Windsor paced Gold's attack with four and three goals, respectively. Kacey Norris added a goal, and Jason Veneziani, two assists.

* 9-11 boys -- Grey pushed its first-place record to 9-0 with an 18-3 win over White.

Owen Hubbs, Dave Stansbury and Eric Vizzini led Grey with four goals apiece, and Chet Cairns added three. Tim Freedman added two scores for Grey, and Jordan Bosley, one. Joe Beal scored twice for White, and Chris Gomola, once. Brian Phillips added an assist.

Blue topped Orange, 8-5, as Kris Gooding and Mark Donahue paced the winners' attack with three goals apiece. Andrew Gordon and Anthony Aschenbrenner each supported with a goal; Todd Farnum and Mike Dougherty each tacked on an assist.

Chad Parker, Justin Waagbo, Eric Wright, Mark Dennis and Ryan Adams each scored a goal for Orange, and Chris Steele added an assist.

Blue topped White, 15-3, as Donahue paced Blue with five goals. Gordon added three goals and two assists, and Gooding, two goals and one assist for Blue.

Blue's Steve Miller had two goals; Dougherty, Aschenbrenner and Mike Gooding each added one.

Joe Beal scored twice for White, and Matt Seivold had the third goal. White's Doran Buppert added an assist.

Grey topped Orange, 8-5, behind four goals from Danny Stansbury and three from Dennie Kosygana. Eric Vizzini and Chet Cairns each added a goal for Grey. Ryan Adams had two goals and an assist for Orange; Chet Parker, Justin Waagbo and Chris Steele each added one.

* 13-14 boys -- Gamber's B team has been stopped in its drive for a Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association championship.

Gamber lost a 6-5 overtime game to Towsontowne in last week's semifinals. Brad Jenkenson scored three goals, and John Ritcey, two goals and two assists for Gamber.

Matt Dutterer also scored, and Jeremy Simons, Jared Thompson and Jeff Landow each added an assist for Gamber, which faded after taking a 5-2 halftime lead. Gamber goalkeeper Mike Wojtaszek played a strong game in the net, stopping 12 shots.

CC Rangers baseball

* 13-14 boys -- Carroll County Rangers White split a doubleheader with the Yankee-Rebel Gold.

The Rangers took the first game, 11-4, as Greg Miller went 3-for-3. Miller had a single, triple and home run, scoring three runs and driving in three. Steven Pyzik had a double and two singles for the Rangers.

Mike Porter got the win, going five innings, allowing three runs and striking out six.

The Rebels won the second game, nipping the Rangers, 10-9 in eight innings.

Carroll County had rallied with three seventh-inning runs to tie the contest. Richard Veit and Greg Miller had RBI singles to bring the Rangers within one run, and Steven Pyzik knotted the game at 9 with a two-out single. Miller was 2-for-2, scoring twice.

* 12-and-under boys -- Atholton scored four sixth-inning runs to break a 7-7 tie, and went on to beat Winfield, 11-9, in a Central Maryland Travel League game.

John Duerr had a solo homer for Winfield and Tim Curtis, a two-run triple. Winfield's Robin Taylor had a two-run double, and Scott Hinton added a 2-for-3 effort.

Finksburg softball

* 10-12 girls -- The Blue Jays upped their first-place record to 9-1 by blanking the Astros, 7-0.

Megan McNalley tossed a three-hitter to get the win. Hailey and Amanda Glanville, Kristie Stem and Donna Camilleri were each 2-for-3 for the Jays. Hailey Glanville had a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Amanda Glanville had a homer and double.

Stem had a double and triple and scored twice, and Camilleri had a two-bagger. In an earlier game, the Blue Jays out-slugged the Giants, 22-18. The Jays scored five runs in both the first and second innings.

Dyanna Parker drove home five runs for the winners, going 3-for-3, while Terri Stem was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Mary Pat Forsythe supported with a 3-for-3 game, and Amanda Chaffman was 2-for-2 and scored three times.

Gillian Summers was 2-for-3 for the Jays, scoring two runs, and Jenny Fahr drove in two runs and scored two. Kim Barker led the Giants' attack, going 3-for-3, scoring three runs, hitting a two-run triple and driving in five.

The Giants' Sue Fisher and Crystal Davidson were each 3-for-3, with Fisher driving home three runs. Amanda Boyer went 3-for-5 for the Giants, with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Laura Owen and Erin Parr were each 2-for-3.

The Giants had three five-run innings en route to a 17-9 win over the A's. Annie Harris was 3-for-3 for the winners, scoring twice.

Sue Fisher, Crystal Davidson and Amy March were each 2-for-3 for the Giants, with Fisher driving in four runs, and the others driving in two. Jessica Fleming scattered 10 hits in seven innings in pitching her Reds team to a 17-1 win over the A's.

Brianna Severn was 3-for-3 and scored twice for the winners. The Reds' Sarah Mohlmann, Ann Rose Parker, Heather Sinclair, Becky Cole, Ann Yust and Gabe Griffis were 2-for-3. Sinclair drove in three runs.

Amy Braitsch's two-run sixth-inning homer broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Astros a 5-3 win over the Braves. Braitsch and Jeannetta McGettigan were 3-3 for the Astros. Anna Repetti pitched the final four innings to get the win, yielding only one run.

The Astros downed the Giants, 26-3. McGettigan homered, tripled and drove in four runs. Repetti was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and Braitsch was 3-for-4.

Nicole Euler hit a three-run homer and Kate McDermott added a solo shot in addition to going 3-for-3 and driving in four runs for the Astros. Lauren Poe went 3-for-4 for the Astros and scored twice.
