Softball
* 10-12 girls -- The Cape St. Claire Cougars improved their record to 8-1 with wins last week over Crofton Black and Crofton Red.
In Cape St. Claire's 11-10 win over Crofton Red, the Cougars trailed 10-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning before Suzie Shuttleworth doubled in the third and fourth runs of the inning to knot the score at 10. Becky Wojtowicz followed with an RBI single that brought in what proved to be the winning run.
In the Cape's 20-10 win over Crofton Black, Tifany Limbacher struck out nine and got solid relief from Jessica James and Colleen Dugan.
Offensively, Shuttleworth had two triples and a double and was walked intentionally with the bases loaded. Sasha Dei and Debbie Anderson each went 2-for-3 for the Cougars and Alinga Harper and Kari McDonald were 2-for-2 and 1-for-2, respectively.
* Seniors -- The Wooden Nickel took two games from Top of the Hill in doubleheader league action last Tuesday.
In the first game, which Wooden Nickel won 10-9, Joe Anderson went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for the victors and Bill Lear was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Top of the Hill.
Tom Canning and Ken Lavern each went 4-for-4 for the Wooden Nickel in their 11-10 victory in Game 2. Glen Walter was the winning pitcher and Bob Poling was 3-for-4 for Top of the Hill.
Betty and Jakes defeated Corrigan's in a doubleheader, 18-16 and 17-1. Fran Pilarski and Don Good each had three hits in the first victory and Earle Orme was the winning pitcher.
Ted Stallings and Ron Parker each had three hits in the second game and Herb Saffield picked up the win on the mound.
The Classics and Arthur's split a doubleheader. The Classics won the first game, 10-9, behind three hits from Charles Collavanni.
In the second game, Bob Dennis had four hits and drove in the winning run as Arthur's rallied to a 14-13 victory. Ernie Lear was the winning pitcher.
The Wooden Nickel took two from Spindler's, 18-6 and 14-6, in Thursday league action.
Lavern went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the first game and Hal Grier was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Grier and Tom Canning each were 3-for-4 in the second game and Glen Walter was the winning pitcher.
Betty and Jakes beat the Greyhounds in a Thursday night doubleheader, 16-1 and 24-12. Charlie Philips and Bill Poland each had five hits for the winners. Dave McKinnan and John Hoffman each had three hits for the Greyhounds.
Corrigan's beat Arthur's twice, 16-3 and 20-6. Bob Kelly was 4-for-4 and Frenchie LeTan was the winning pitcher in Game 1.
In the second game, Ken Ryland hit a grand slam and drove in five runs and Kelly was the winning pitcher.
The Classics and Last Chance split two games. The Classics won the first game, 17-10, thanks to a 3-for-4 performance by Ron Price. Craig Stone recorded three hits as Last Chance won the second game, 15-14. Marv Gatz was the winning pitcher.
Arthur's and the Classics split two games in Wednesday over-50 action. Arthur's won the first game, 9-8, but then fell in the nightcap, 12-7.
Jim Galloway went 7-for-7 for Arthur's in the first game and teammate Gordy Ford was 7-for-8. Tom Collins had two home runs and five RBIs for the Classics in Game 2 and Terry Theis emerged as the winning pitcher.
Romano's and the Classics II split a doubleheader on Wednesday. Romano's won the first game, 28-23, before losing, 16-12.
Craig Blackburn had three hits and four RBIs for Romano's in the first game and Jim Halley went 6-for-7 and had seven RBIs for the Classics II in Game 2.
* 10-and-under girls -- The North County Girls Softball League West Division All-Stars will be comprised of players from the Linthicum-Ferndale Sidekicks, the Harundale Robins and the Severna Park Marlins for Sunday's County Classic.
Tiffany Flowers, Kristin Shay, Christina Klemkowski, Kelly Sinnen, Amy Brocious and Megan Collins were selected from the Linthicum-Ferndale Sidekicks. The Robins will be represented by Jenna Moenuis, Holly Champagne, Jessica Griffith, Amy Kirby, Deanna Heffington and Natalie Contrion.
Representing the Severna Park Marlins are Katy
Opel, Racheal Zavala, Elizabeth Kasper, Karrie Everett, Tori Cowley and Jennifer Maranio.
Lacrosse
* Midget boys -- The Severna Park Green Hornets clinched the Anne Arundel Youth Lacrosse championship with a 4-3 win over the previously unbeaten AYLA Seahawks Thursday night at Weems Whalen Field in Annapolis.
Goalie Joey Kenworthy (15 saves) and crease defenseman Joe Hickman led a tough Hornet defense in stopping the Seahawk attack. Defenders Davin Rausch and Phil Tansil, along with midfielders Paul Gillette, Scott MacMullen, Travis Wells, Matt Lehmann and Jerry Cornett, took the Seahawks out of their highly explosive transition game.
Attackman Mike Cosper led the Severna Park offense with two goals and one assist. Midfielder Starke Mueller and attackman Drew Pfarr each had one goal and Mac Chase rounded out the Hornets' scoring with an assist.
The win puts the Green Hornets (10-2) into the state championship final on June 17 in Howard County.
* Junior boys -- The Severna Park Green Hornets took another victory lap last Thursday after a 12-0 win over Crofton in the first round of the playoffs.
Ryan Miller scored two goals and had two assists and Bert Whitelock and Mike Kubas each had a goal and an assist. Jon Lehman found the net on his only shot of the evening and Darrin McAllister was credited with two goals and an assist.
Ryan Metzbower and Dale Anderson had two goals apiece for Severna Park and Randy Newman rounded out the scoring on a feed from Robert Hoffman.
Ian Dunn, Matt Kellough, Pat Grizzle, Jason Mullen, Luke Smith, Justin Miller, Jeremy Wilson, Ken Howell and goalie Charles Robinson all played well in the win.
The Hornets will play AYLA in the second round of the playoffs at 6:15 tonight at Kinder Park.
Soccer
* Under-17 girls -- The Severna Park Soccer Association upped its record to 5-1-1 by defeating the Columbia Lazers last week, 1-0, in Washington Area Girls Soccer league action.
Tracy Mrazek of North County scored the lone goal on an assist from Laura Basil (Chesapeake). Marcia Lavin of Arundel worked the nets for Severna Park and came away with seven saves.
* Under-16 girls -- The Severna Park Soccer Association improved to 8-0 by defeating the ESP Hurricanes, 12-2, in indoor league action last week at Du Burns Arena.
Laura Basil led the way for Severna Park with four goals and one assist. Carina Sonberg of Old Mill and Tara Their os Northeast each chipped in with two goals and an assist and Jill Jones (Arundel) added two goals.
Chrissy Kohlhepp (Chesapeake) had a goal and an assist for the victors and Nicole Lang of Broadneck scored one goal.
Earlier in the week, SPSA defeated the Severna Park Power, 5-1, and tied the Columbia Cougars, 1-1.
Baseball
* 15-and-under boys -- The Raiders upped their record to 4-0 with wins last week over GORC, 27-1, and Mayo, 16-1. In the first game, Jason Lamb pitched three innings for the Raiders and struck out two. Chris Walker entered in the fourth inning and closed out the game with six strikeouts.
Robbie Evans and Carl Cicchetti led the Raiders offensively. Evans went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs and Cicchetti was 4-for-4 with a double, three singles and four RBIs.
Lamb, Shaun Ditch, Tom Stalcup and Jim Hilton each homered for the Raiders.
Paul White pitched four innings, struck out seven and allowed only one run in the Raiders' win over Mayo. Ditch came in in relief and closed out the game with six strikeouts. White homered to help her own cause.
Evans had three doubles and a triple and Stalcup had a triple, double and two singles.
